On Tuesday 13 September, Roseberys were pleased to present the Jewellery & Watches auction which sold 95% of the lots. The sale comprised of 337 lots with jewellery that included antique examples through to the present day. Signed jewellery performed very well with collections from Cartier, Chaumet, Tiffany & Theo Fennell being particularly popular.

Lot 337: A rectangular-cut sapphire single stone ring by Lacloche Freres

 

The last and premium lot was a very appealing rectangular-cut sapphire ring by Lacloche Freres. Weighing 23.26 carats it was accompanied by a Gemmological report stating that it had shown no indications of heat treatment and the origin was thought to be Sri Lanka (Ceylon) the stone was a particularly attractive typical Ceylon blue and had very good clarity, unheated sapphires of good colour and clarity are rare and with a pre-sale estimate of £20,000-£40,000. The ring realised £37,500*.

 

Lot 329: A rubellite and diamond ring, centring on a rectangular-cut red tourmaline

 

Lot 329 was a ring that was particularly sought after, generally termed as a rubellite, this was an impressive stone of around 30 carats. Red tourmalines are the scarcer variety of types and had excellent clarity and transparency. Embellished with diamond shoulders it realised £22,500*.

 

Lot 336: An 18ct gold, diamond ring, by Garrard & Co

 

The most important diamond ring included in the sale was lot 336. An old brilliant-cut diamond single stone ring by Garrard & Co, the diamond weighed approximately 4.00 carats and was set off with a band of baguette-cut diamonds that ran all the way around the hoop. The estimate was correctly placed at £12,000-16,000 and the bidding closed at £22,500*.

 

 

 

Lot 333: An Art Deco, diamond double clip brooch

 

Heading the vintage jewellery section was lot 333, a fine-quality Art Deco diamond double clip brooch. Set with old-mine-cut diamonds this was a great example of its type. It was also complete with alternative fittings and an original fitted case. Good antique jewellery which still has its original cases are not commonly seen on the market now. Closing at £15,000* after an estimate between £7,000-9,000.

 

Lot 321: A natural pearl, cultured pearl and diamond necklace, composed of three graduated rows of natural pearls to a lozenge-shaped clasp set with circular- and single-cut diamonds

 

Lot 321, a very charming natural pearl triple row necklace with an Art deco clasp, sold for £6,875* against an estimate of £3,000-5,000.

 

Lot 323: A jade and diamond cluster ring, the oval cabochon jadeite jade claw-set with baguette diamond stepped surround, approximate dimensions of jade

 

Another ring that was set with a rare apple green jade cabochon within a high-quality diamond surround also proved popular, the jade had not been treated in any way to improve colour and bidding closed at £9,373* against an estimate of £2,500-3,500.

 

 

Lot 268: Cartier, an 18ct gold, diamond band ring, by Cartier, pave-set with brilliant-cut diamonds, signed Cartier and numbered

 

The Cartier section of the sale proved very buoyant with a diamond-set band ring attracting much interest, the estimate was £3,000-5,000 and hammered at £6,875*.

Lot 206: Chaumet, a diamond eternity ring

 

In Chaumet section, a diamond eternity ring that was a very neat design in that it was set with diamonds on both sides as well as around the outside was hotly contested, with an estimate of £800-1,200 it finally realised £3,750*

 

Lot 285: Theo Fennell, an 18ct gold, diamond ring

 

One highlight from the Theo Fennell collection was a diamond single stone ring that was beautifully made and typical of the great style of his pieces was secured at £5,000 this had an estimate of £2,000-3,000
