Buyer's Premium
Please note a buyer’s premium is applied to all lots bought at auction. The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 26% up to £20,000 (31.2% inclusive of VAT), 25% from £20,001 - £500,000 (30% inclusive of VAT), 20% from £500,001 thereafter (24% inclusive of VAT). The premium price is subject to VAT at the standard rate.
Artists Resale Rights (ARR)
This was introduced by a European Directive in 2006 to ensure that artists receive a royalty when their work is resold by an auction house or gallery. This Right applies to living artists and to those who have died within the last 70 years who are from applicable countries. This royalty is paid by the purchaser on top of the hammer price if the sale price reaches or exceeds 1000 pounds.
The amount payable is on a sliding scale e.g. up to 50,000 pounds, the royalty rate is 4% of the sale price. The maximum royalty a work can earn is capped at 12,500 pounds.
Online Bidding Fees
There is no additional charge to bid live online through Roseberys website.
If you are bidding through a third party platform there is an additional surcharge. The-saleroom.com and Invaluable have an additional 5% + VAT surcharge. For other platforms please check the terms and conditions as you register to bid.
VAT Charged on the Hammer Price
On some lots there is a note to say (VAT Charged on the Hammer Price), in this instance there is VAT charged on both the hammer price and the buyers premium. This is normally because the seller is a VAT registered company.
