Wednesday 7th December is the date set by Roseberys to present our last of three Design Since 1860 sales. Smaller decorative items which could make unique Christmas gifts include a Lalique Faucon glass car mascot, a variety of iridescent Loetz glass, a box by Hermes, Omar Ramsden silver, a gilded Royal Worcester owl ewer, or a variety of coloured Murano glass. In sculpture we offer a terracotta bust of a girl by Edward Onslow Ford (RA) who was commissioned for several public works and is best remembered for his busts. To accommodate extra holiday season guests, buyers might be interested in dining tables on offer by Silvio Cavatorta, Jacques Adnet, or John Mortensen for Heltborg Møbler. Or perhaps seating by Tom Dixon, Ron Arad, and Le Corbusier. The brightly coloured Sunray pattern tea service by Shelley would also make a fun addition to the Christmas table.

For those looking to buy additional lighting, the sale includes an array of lamps by names such as Mark Brazier-Jones, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Arteluce, Fase, and Erik Tidstrand for AB Nordiska Kompaniet.

It is a popular piece with fantastic character and - with the enclosed provenance - is sure to attract huge interest. The jug has an estimate of £2,500 to £3,500.

Lot 14: Omar Ramsden, Arts and Crafts Tudor rose and thorns inkwell with cover, 1920, Silver

One of England’s most famous and collectible silversmiths is surely Omar Ramsden. Lot 14 - an Arts and Crafts -style inkwell - is a really interesting and compact example of Ramsden’s work, modelled with Tudor rose and thorns.  It was made in 1920 and is engraved to the base with the familiar 'OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT’ (“Omar Ramsden made me”). Lot 14 comes to auction with a £1,000 to £1,500 estimate.

Lot 227: Gaetano Pesce for B&B Italia, 'UP-5' chair and 'UP-6' Ottoman, circa 1970

Polyurethane foam, stretched fabric

Roseberys are delighted to offer an early 'UP-5' chair and 'UP-6' Ottoman by Italian designer Gaetano Pesce. Originally conceived in 1968, this radical design is typical of Pesce’s exploration of form and new materials, whilst instilling his ever-present sense of humour and whimsy. This example is a scarce early version, produced in the early 1970’s by B&B Italia. This lot has a £1,500 to £2,000 estimate.

Lot 197: Hans Brattrud (1933-2017) for Hove Mobler, Set of eight ‘Scandia’ chairs, circa 1960

Teak, chromed metal

Designed by Hans Brattrud and produced by Hove Mobler in the 1960’s, the ‘Scandia’ chair is now recognized as an icon of Scandinavian design. The teak-veneered bent ply slats of the seat are constructed in 1mm thick laminates and set on slim chromed metal supports. With this design, Brattrud aimed to create a chair that didn’t attract too much attention to itself, and to work in both traditional and modern interiors. The enduring appeal of this design is testament to his success.  Lot 197 comes to Roseberys with a £2,000 to £2,500 estimate.
