Description

An album of Zand calligraphy by Darwish Abd al-Majid Taliqani, compiled in the 19th century, 13ff., 24 calligraphic panels in black shikasteh nastaliq on gold ground, all in the hand of the calligrapher Abd al-Majid Taliqani, the vast majority signed and dated between the years 1178-1180AH (1765-1767AD), some calligraphic samples such as Quran I, sura al-fatiha, and Quran CXII, sura al-ikhlas, repeated a number of times, most panels in Persian, some panels with later numbers, laid down on red coloured card, in fine morocco set with portraits of Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph I (1830-1916) and Empress Elisabeth Sisi of Austria (1837-1898), calligraphy 10 x 7cm, page 24.5 x 16cm.

 

Darwish 'Abd al-Majid Taliqani is a renowned calligrapher of Shitasteh nastaliq, a style which is exemplified in the present album. He was born circa AH 1150/1737 AD in Taliqan, near Qazwin and died in AH 1185/1771-72 AD. He moved to Isfahan where he produced works dated between AH 1170/1756-56 AD until his death. The panels in this album were executed within this period, between AH 1178 and AH 1180. Abd al-Majid copied a manuscript of the Kulliyat of Sadi, now in the Gulistan Palace Library (Mehdi Bayani, Ahval va Asar-e Khosh-Nevisan, Vol. IV, Tehran, 1348 sh., pp. 252-4) and an anthology of poems signed by him was sold at Christies, London, 17 April 2007, lot 103.

 

 

 

 

 

Buyer's Premium

The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 26% up to £20,000 (31.2% inclusive of VAT), 25% from £20,001 - £500,000 (30% inclusive of VAT), 20% from £500,001 thereafter (24% inclusive of VAT). The premium price is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

VAT is not charged on the hammer price unless it is stated that there is 'VAT applicable on the hammer price at the end of the description. Buyer's premium is subject to VAT.
(ARR) - ARTIST'S RESALE RIGHT

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.

It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
