Lot 158

Description

Walter Furlan (b.1931), 'Omaggio a Modigliani'

c.1993, signed and titled to base

A large and impressive one off glass sculpture by Walter Furlan of a stylised head in the manner of Amedeo Modigliani sitting on a black glass oblong base, the head itself being hand shaped from bottle green coloured glass with a textured white 'scavo' finish

42.5cm high (ARR)

Provenance: Private collection, London;

Commissioned by the owner directly from Walter Furlan in Murano

Note: Walter Furlan trained under both Alfredo Barbini and Gino Cenedese who regularly used a technique called 'scavo' where the hot figuratively moulded forms were covered with chemical mixtures to avoid reflections with the word 'scavo' coming from the similarities in this finish with excavated items
