Description

Damien Hirst,

British b.1965-

Second Series Biopsy: M132/246-Lung_cancer._scanning_electron_micrograph-SPL.jpg,

2010;

a unique piece, ink jet on canvas, gloss paint, scalpel blades, fish hooks, pins, glass and religious trinkets, signed, titled, dated 2010 and bears Science label on the reverse, 159.8x121.8cm (ARR)

Provenance: Blain Southern, London.

Note: This piece is from Hirsts biopsy paintings series, first exhibited at the White Cube in 2007. For this series, Hirst started with a series of medical photographs of diseased cells, sourced from a scientific library, which are printed onto canvas and then worked on further by the artist. Through his technique of collage Hirst decorated these prints with human hair, needles, and scalpels, clearly expressing his interest in the contrast between the dark subject-matter and materials of his work, and its attractive appearance.
