Lot 236

Description

Rebecca Stevenson,
British b.1971-

Lust Auf Frucht, 2007;

mixed media sculpture; polyester resin and wax, 47cm (without podium), 147cm (with podium)(ARR)

Provenance: Mogadishni Gallery, Denmark, where purchased by the present owner in 2008.

Note: Rebecca Stevenson is a British sculptor.

Stevensons works draw a range of historical artistic influences, including 17th-century still lifes depicting bountiful supplies of perfectly ripe and luscious fruits, alongside the ornate mouldings which define the Baroque style. The present work encourages the viewer to consider the constant conflict between permanence and decay, and the disconnect between the materiality of an object and the essence of life.
