Description
A Mughal jade archers ring, India, circa 1700, composed of a light green jade inlaid with gold scrolling flower heads, 4.2cm. diam.
Provenance: Private UK Collection, Raja Wazir Singh of Faridkot (1828-1874), and thence by descent

This jade archer's ring finds parallels in a number of museum collections, including the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul, inv. no TKS: 2/83 and the Kusthistorisches Museum, Vienna, inv. no. 2218. (see J.M. Rogers and R.M. Ward, Suleyman the Magnificent (exh. cat.), British Museum, 1988, p.152, no.89; and D.J. Roxburgh (ed.), Turk- A Journey of a Thousand years, 600-1600 (exh. cat.), Royal Academy of Arts, London, 22 January - 12 April 2005, p.335, no.312: 'Thumb ring, 1550-1600, Istanbul, Turkey').
WAZIR SINGH, RAJA (1828-1874), succeeded in 1849 his father Raja Pahar Singh to the gaddi of Faridkot. A devout Sikh, Wazir Singh had received the rites of initiation at Gurdwara Sri Hazur Sahib, Nanded. sacred to Guru Gobind Singh. He founded new villages and introduced several reforms in the land revenue system. He also introduced a system of written plaints and himself held court. He placed his services at the disposal of the British government for the suppression of the 1857 rising and was rewarded with the title of Brar Bans Raja Sahib Bahadur and a salute of eleven guns. Raja Wazir Singh died at Kurukshetra on 21 April 1874 after a reign of 25 years and was succeeded by his son, Bikram Singh.

Buyer's Premium
The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 26% up to £20,000 (31.2% inclusive of VAT), 25% from £20,001 - £500,000 (30% inclusive of VAT), 20% from £500,001 thereafter (24% inclusive of VAT). The premium price is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

VAT is not charged on the hammer price unless it is stated that there is 'VAT applicable on the hammer price at the end of the description. Buyer's premium is subject to VAT.(ARR) - ARTIST'S RESALE RIGHT
Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.
It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
Buyers intending to export goods should ascertain whether an export licence is required before bidding. Export licences are issued by Arts Council England and application forms can be obtained from its Export Licensing Unit. The need for import licences varies from country to country and you should acquaint yourself with all relevant local requirements and provisions before bidding. The refusal of any such licences shall not permit the cancelling of any sale nor allow any delay in making full payment for the lot.
