Sir Nicholas Goodison noted:
Tumbling Man: This is a simple falling toy. The figures outstretched arms catch each peg in turn as he descends, until he is arrested by the ground at the bottom. On his website Beck calls the figure a Wobbler. Christof Beck was a master mechanic but took to making wooden toys after WW2 in 1946 for lack of engineering work. He used natural woods from the forests of Swabia in Bavaria, principally beech, ash and maple He supplied homes and kindergartens. As the business grew he enlarged the number of products and since 1966 has received the Spiel Gut seal of approval for over 60 of them. The toys include vehicles, cascading toys, dolls houses, garages, farms, yo-yos, tops and many others. There is a substantial export business.
Walking Penguin: The penguin moves down the incline under its own momentum, The front leg is fixed, the back leg is loosely mounted, imparting a balanced rhythm that pitches the penguin forwards. This is a toy made in many countries.
