Ali Omar Ermes was a Libyan artist, writer, and activist. He studied at the Plymouth School of Architecture and Design in England. In 1974 he was appointed consultant to the Festival of Islam in London, where he settled in 1981. He was the Chairman of Muslim Cultural Heritage Center in London.

This work, depicting the letters Seen, Sheen, Ssad and Dhadh (س , ش, ﺹ, ﺽ), is typical of Ermes, where he combines tradition and modernity, linking the aesthetic of the visual form with linguistic meaning, through stunning and vibrant colours and always readable text addressing social and moral issues.

His works are today part of major museums worldwide, including the British Museum, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, and the Barjeel Art Foundation in Sharjah.
