晚清/民國 銅胎掐絲琺瑯水煙筒兩件,「孟」、「省港大新公司」款

Water pipes were pipes where a water compartment was used to cool and filter the smoke. Those in the present lot represent the most typical form of Chinese pipes, and were not only a pipe but a complete smoking set, with storage containers and often also cleaning implements, as well as chains (still present in the smaller pipe), to hang them from the owner's belts. Many of these pipes, like those in the present lot, bear the mark of the shopkeeper or trader who sold them - in the case of the smaller pipe, a company operating in the Canton and Hong Kong area.
