James Lynwood Palmer,
British 1867/68-1941-
Portrait of a bay horse standing in a landscape;

Private Collection, UK.
Note:
Lynwood Palmer was a prominent equestrian painter, completing commissions for figures such as King George V (1865-1936), Daisy Greville, Countess of Warwick (1861-1938), and William Cavendish-Bentinck, Duke of Portland (1857-1943). He emigrated to Canada in 1884, where he worked with horses on cattle ranches, as a hansom cab master, and as a show jumper. These experiences allowed Lynwood Palmer to develop a knowledge of and familiarity with horses which undoubtedly informed his portraits.
