Description

British 1936-2003 -

Portrait of a young man;

watercolour and charcoal on paper, signed lower left 'Patrick Procktor', 49.5 x 45.2 cm (ARR)

Provenance:
Frederick Charles Art, London, no.1384 (numbered on the reverse of the frame);
the Estate of W. J. Erroll

Note:
Patrick Procktor was one of the most important British artists of the late 20th century, celebrated alongside his friends Keith Vaughan and David Hockney. Known for his natural and colourful figurative style, his watercolours encapsulate his talent and wit. An intrepid traveller, his works were often inspired by the colours and sounds remembered from his trips to Greece, India and Morocco.

His work has been regularly exhibited at the Redfern Gallery, alongside a touring museum show in 1985 that began at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. He was more recently the subject of an acclaimed retrospective at Huddersfield Art Gallery in 2012. His work is in collections across the world including British Museum, London; Los Angeles County Museum, Museum of Modern Art, New York and Museo de Arte São Paulo, Brazil.
