Cf. 'Façon de Venise' is a term that generally refers to European glass imitating the shapes and forms typical of Venetian wares from Murano. The present lot exemplifies how the shapes and tastes travelled much farther than Europe, probably also through the presence of Jesuit missionaries at the Chinese court in the 17th and 18th century. The shape of the neck and handles of 'Façon de Venise' vases resemble very closely that of Venetian wine glasses of the same period, see an example in Bayerischen Nationalmuseum, Munich, illustrated by Rainer Rückert (1982), pl.13, fig.53
