Lot 580
Description
Tacita Dean CBE RA,
British b.1965 -
Valencian Trackwalker;
mixed technique on paper, signed and titled in pencil along lower edge 'Tacita Dean Valencian trackwalker', 13 x 20.6 cm (mounted/unframed) (ARR)
Note:
the present lot is likely an early work. It has overt references to Van Gogh’s The Sower (1888) and Francis Bacon’s interpretation of the same theme, such as Study for a Portrait of Van Gogh (1957) which indicates an interesting point in the artist’s early development. Dean is interested in the concept of navigation both in space and in time, primarily working with film and photography.
Dean was the 12th artist commissioned for the prestigious Tate Turbine Hall commission in 2011 and was a Turner Prize nominee in 1998.
She will be the subject of a solo exhibition at The Menil Collection, Houston, Texas, later this year entitled 'Tacita Dean: Blind Folly',
