Roseberys presents 400 lots of privately sourced and well-provenanced works of art and works on paper. Leading the sale is a royal Qajar collection of manuscripts, calligraphies and calligraphic albums. We are also please to present manuscripts formerly in the collection of Prof. W.M. Ballantyne (1922-2021), a towering figure of Arab law scholarship. Our Antiquities section features a wonderful collection of Greek pottery including an Attic red-figure lekanis, attributed to the Group of the Rodin Lekanis, circa 380-360 B.C., a collection of rare intact Amlash pottery acquired in the 1960s, and an English private collection of Egyptian New Kingdom limestone fragments.
Other highlights of note include a wonderful collection of medieval Islamic pottery, textiles from Central Asia, the Ottoman Empire, Iran and Palestine. The Modern and Contemporary section features Iranian and Iraqi artists, the first part of a wonderful collection to be featured over the next few sales.
