The forthcoming sale will showcase more than 540 lots, including significant examples of manuscripts, ceramics, metalwork, weaponry, textiles, ceramics and paintings and modern and contemporary works from North Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, Islamic Spain and South Asia. We are pleased to be offering the Private Library of Prof. Michael Rogers, former curator of the Khalili Collection of Islamic Art, London which contains over 900 rare publications, journals and pre-1960s monographs on the art and archaeology of the Mongol, Timurid, Safavid, Seljuq, Ottoman and Mughal dynasties for an estimate of £15,000-20,000. The sale will also highlight, among other wonderful items, over 150 Safavid and Qajar calligraphic works on paper, manuscripts and lacquer ware from a Private London Collection assembled over 50 years. We also have a strong Islamic pottery section with a number of figural Iznik dishes, and including a dish featuring an Ottoman lady last sold in Sotheby’s in 1995, and three large Qajar oils. Leading the modern and contemporary section is a large still life oil on canvas painted in 1986 by Indian modernist painter F.N. Souza (1924-2002) for £30,000-50,000. Further works in the sale are by Krishna Khanna (b. 1925), Jatin Das (b. 1941), Sadanande Bakre (1920-2007) and Emirati artist Abdul Qader Al Rais (b. 1951).
