Michael Bateman
Head of Sale & Specialist | Furniture & RugsMichael first gained an interest in antiques when he was 10 years old by going to fairs and car boot sales with his father. At the age of sixteen, he got a part-time job as a Porter at Bainbridge Auctions in West Ruislip. During his time at Bainbridge, a Chinese vase sold for a world record price of 43 million; it was then that he realised this was the kind of future career he desired. After Bainbridge Auctions, Michael moved on to High Road Auctions in Chiswick, where he began as a Porter and worked his way up to Saleroom Manager and then General Valuer. He gained a great general knowledge of antiques during his time with High Road, with furniture being a particular strong point. After five years at High Road, he moved on to Criterion Auctions in Islington London, where he was Head Valuer for four years. Before coming to Roseberys, he spent a year at Bourne End auctions as a General Valuer, again specialising in furniture. In his spare time, Michael loves going to gigs and festivals, as he has a great passion for music. In fact, he has a large collection of vinyl records dating from the 1950’s to the present day.
