The sale encompasses the entire breadth of Modern art history, from an early masterpiece by French artist Georges Rouault created in 1905, all the way to the contemporary vision of Rachel Howard. We will also have the collections of important figures, including works by Nigerian artists from Gerald Moore (1924-2022), lots 231-232, a writer and editor of modern African poetry; and altruist Rena Behrman (1909-2017), lots 117-122, which includes works by important Israeli and émigré artists. As always, there are sensational pieces by classic Modern British artists, including John Bratby, Theodore Major and Dame Ethel Walker. We also have an especially strong selection of works by British artists that came to prominence in the 1980s, including John Stezaker, Ken Kiff and an extraordinary painted screen by Marc Camille Chaimowicz.
