This auction features an extraordinary number of works by major British and European artists unseen for several decades or only recently rediscovered. Most noticeably, Alexandra Exter’s ‘Musiciens, c.1935-38’ (lot 27), which has been in a private collection for nearly 30 years and is sold at a time of an important re-exploration of the Ukrainian avant-garde; and Robert Colquhoun’s early ‘Head of Boy, c.1950’ (lot 139), never seen at auction. Other highlights include works by Georges Rouault (lot 8), Armand Guillaumin (lot 2) and John Luke (lot 20). We are very pleased to be selling the collection of Elaine Moss (1924-2020), a highly important figure in children's books. This includes a wonderful and iconic illustration piece by Ernest H. Shepard for Winnie-the-Pooh (lot 78).
