Roseberys' Arts of India sale will take place on Wednesday 19 June and features 225 lots of different artistic media from across the Indian subcontinent. From metalwork, jewellery and contemporary Indian art, there is a wide range of interesting and historical lots for sale. 

Lot 1, A Bihari Qu'ran and Tafsir in two volumes from North India, with a date of 1035AH/1625AD comes from a Private London collection and forms the beginning of our manuscript section.

Other highlights include lot 218, a contemporary work by J. Swaminathan (1928-1994) from his Mountain and Bird series which was completed in 1976. Swaminathan was an important Indian artist and poet who helped to establish the Bharat Bhawan art complex in 1982, working as the director of its Roopankar Art Museum up until 1990.

 

Lot 111, A Mughal spinel retailed by Ganeshi Lall & Son from India in 17th century comes with an estimate of £15,000-£20,000. Spinels are almost all untreated and as such this natural beauty is particularly appreciated by collectors.

We are also pleased to present for sale another work by Francis Newton Souza, lot 223. The property of Dr. Premlata Goel, widow of the distinguished art critic, K.B. Goel; Gifted by Souza to his close friend, the art critic, K.B. Goel (1930 - 2018).
