The summer Fine & Decorative sale at Roseberys saw noteworthy results for beautiful works of art produced from Europe, China and the Pacific.
Leading the sale was a private collection of eight lots of Neapolitan creche figures dating to the late 18th and early 19th century. Produced with astonishingly life-like features, the group captured the interest of private collectors in Italy, with energetic bidding from two telephones and online. The lots have returned to Naples where they were created over 200 years ago. The highlight was lot 521, a group of traditional Nativity figures, which included a remarkable angel with stunning flowing hair, that achieved a hammer price of £30,140.
“We are delighted with the results of the sale. It was especially exciting to see the exceptional results for the collection of Neapolitan creche figures, which produced a combined total of £76,585, and the Maori nephrite hei-tiki pendant which sold for £15,744,” commented Anna Evans, Head of Sale.
