The Prints and Multiples sale on September 4th showcased impressive works from renowned artists including Bob Dylan, Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Damien Hirst, and Banksy. Roseberys also presented the remarkable private collection of Sue Clive MBE, on behalf of her family, featuring exceptional prints by Lill Tschudi, William E. Greengrass, Paul Nash, Sonia Delaunay and Dame Paula Rego.
Bob Dylan’s works remained popular, with notable results throughout the auction. The unique hand-embellished giclée Sidetracks, 9 February 1991, London, England (Lot 308) fetched £26,240. Additionally, both Lot 314 and Lot 322 achieved £22,304 each, surpassing their top estimates.
In our Damien Hirst section, Lot 430 garnered significant attention, underscoring the continued appeal of the ‘Virtues’ series from 2021. The Souls (Lots 438 and 439) also commanded strong prices, reflecting their ongoing desirability.
Andy Warhol continues to prove his importance within the prints market, with two standout pieces leading the auction on the 4th. Double Self Portrait (Lot 287) achieved £25,617, while the 1950s piece Tattooed Woman Holding a Rose (Lot 286) fetched £13,120.
The Sue Clive MBE collection also yielded excellent results. William Scott’s Composition from 35 Artists, 1981 (Lot 22) sold for £7,216; Sonia Delaunay’s Eclipse, 1971 (Lot 32) reached £2,886; and Dame Paula Rego’s How Many Miles to Babylon? from the Nursery Rhymes series, 1989 (Lot 27) achieved £4,461.
Additional highlights included Picasso’s Tête de Femme de Profil, 1959 (Lot 92), which sold for £24,928; Banksy’s Golf Sale (Lot 493) for £8,528; and Shepard Fairey’s Duality of Humanity, 2008 (Lot 478) for £7,216.
Overall, the sale demonstrated a robust market for both modern and contemporary prints, indicating the enduring appeal of these celebrated artists and collections. This auction further reflects the continued enthusiasm and appreciation for prints across different periods and styles, showcasing the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of the art market.
