For this Takes5, we caught up with the wonderful Carol Annet. Here are her five favourite lots from the upcoming Modern British & 20th Century Art auction that will take place on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 October.
Carole Annett is an interiors editor of Country & Town House magazine and host of The House Guest podcast (on iTunes and British Airways inflight entertainment)
She is currently doing up her own house and is planning an eclectic mix of art on the walls, inspired by private members club 5, Hertford St where poster art, photographs and old menu cards sit happily alongside watercolours, still life, abstract and landscape art against a fabulously rich wallpaper design. More is more!
Lot 12. Henry Charles Brewer, On The Thames at Cannon St, watercolour and pencil on paper
" I am always drawn to images and art depicting historic London"
Lot 22. Frank J. Carmichael, British, Pamela; watercolour on paper
"Pamela - an auburn beauty. The colours just sing. She looks like she is in love"
"The tall poplar trees drew me to this. Reminds me of holidays in Italy."
Lot 119. John Christopherson, British 1921-1996 - City at Night, 1981
"City at night - reminds me of poster art. I’d hang this alongside a whole mix of different mediums."
"Reminded me of my grandparents house - staring at the window on a rainy day."
