This November’s auction presents 362 lots spanning the 1500s until the early years of the 20th century. The high quality paintings, drawings and prints on offer represent a diverse collection of works by numerous artists and across several art historical movements and genres. The sale is particularly strong in portraiture across the ages, with canvases by Thomas Hudson, John Linnell, Augustus Egg, William Powell Frith, Philip de László, and Princess Victoria (Victoria and Albert’s eldest daughter) particular ones to watch! Further highlights include contemplative early religious works; a rediscovered drawing by Pietro Novelli; some exquisite 17th and 18th-century compositions by Dutch, Italian and English masters; and some wonderful examples of Victorian and 19th-century continental works in oil. Significant drawings by artists including Santi di Tito, Jean Berain, Giovanni Paolo Panini, John Martin, Edward Lear, George Chinnery, Sir William Russell Flint, and Guiseppe Signorini form a fantastic group of works on paper. We are also delighted to present a rare chromolithograph depicting the Anglo-Dutch Battles of Solebay and Texel.
