Rosebery’s qualified and experienced valuers undertake independent valuations of personal chattels under Section 160 of the Inheritance Tax Act 1984. The reports are for both executors and solicitors who are acting on behalf of a deceased estate in compliance with the requirements of HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Our professional valuers use their expert knowledge and experience to ensure that the open market valuations are realistic and will not be rejected by the HMRC
A detailed inventory and valuation with all items of importance and any specific bequests is produced.

Typically, a valuer will visit the property and list all items with a value in excess of £500. In addition, any items below this level but still of saleable value will be recorded. An abbreviated valuation will be produced in line with section 160 of the 1984 Inheritance Act as well as a more detailed report for the executors.

In the event of executors or beneficiaries wish to arrange the sale of some or all of the chattels involved in an estate, then Rosebery’s provides a complete sales service. We will arrange collection of the pieces concerned, ensure their inclusion in the appropriate sales, advise on reserves where necessary and ensure a rapid settlement.

Roseberys are regularly asked to value property acquired by an individual prior to marriage or partnership, or through inheritance as well as jointly owned items, to help achieve an equitable division of marital assets.

We can also provide valuations, along with periodic reviews, where it may be desirable to have individual items of high value specified in a pre-nuptial agreement.

We offer a comprehensive valuation of antiques, artwork, jewellery and other items to enable the equitable division of possessions amongst family members, for example to assist in the drawing up of a Will or pursuant to a Court Order.

Roseberys acts as the Expert under FPR Part 25 – undertaking inventories and the valuation of personal possessions for Divorce and Financial Remedy proceedings instructed by individual solicitors or as a joint instruction by the Central Family Court.

Insurance valuations reflect the cost of replacement after loss or damage.
Roseberys can provide an open market valuation of your artworks, antiques and jewellery ensuring that you are neither under insured or over insured to avoid any unrealistic premium payments and subsequent disputes should a claim arise.

To ensure that the value of your items reflect current market conditions, we can review valuations annually so that replacement costs reflect changing market values. In certain areas such as Asian art, contemporary art and jewellery there can be a considerable swing in value.

Our valuations are accepted by insurance companies and brokers providing the confidence of a full and speedy settlement for any loss.

Valuations can be provided on single items or we can provide a detailed and illustrated inventory of art, antiques and jewellery to include information about age, size, provenance or other facts that may be helpful for the insurer to know.

This is a court which provides care and management of people who are unable to look after their own affairs, for example someone who is suffering from a lack of mental capacity. Upon instruction, Rosebery’s will undertake an open market valuation of the assets in the Client’s property and produce a formal document. The Deputy can use the calculations in the report to complete the necessary form COP1 and/or COP1B. Roseberys provide valuations of assets so that the items can be sold to raise funds for their care. Roseberys can arrange for the items to be collected and auctioned to raise funds. We can also arrange for the client’s residence to be cleared and left in a suitable state for it to be put on the market for sale.
